Slovenia! Land of Dragons!

So we have just come back from a two week holiday in Slovenia.  It was only the Land of Dragons according to our Sat Nav as it stopped on the border so we were "off-road" all the time.  It as all ok though.  We resorted to the old fashioned method of using a map and we didn't get lost once!  Back to maps I say!  Katie kept asking if the car knew where Slovenia was yet - er no.

Anyway, I digress.

It's only a 3 hour drive to the Slovenian border from us and so why on earth we haven't been before I have no idea as it's beautiful.

First we drove from Austria over the Vršič Pass through the Julian Alps which was jolly pretty but I wasn't driving so I could just enjoy the scenery.  We drove down the Soča Valley and camped at a small campsite by the river.  We did a couple of gorge walks which the children loved.

We also had a BBQ on the rocks by the river before moving on after 3 nights.

After 3 nights we packed up camp and moved further down south to see some caves (Postojna).  We found a fab campsite in a forest near the most touristy but possibly largest cave in the world.  We stayed 3 nights here and did the mammoth tourist cave one day, and the next a cool castle with caves underneath which made me think of secret passages Famous Five style on Kirren Island.  The children love caves and had a great time. We bought Katie a pink cap at Predjamski Castle which is an amazing castle built into the rock.  It had lots of steps inside which were great for climbing up to see out of the highest viewpoints.

And there I will finish for now as I am tired.

More tomorrow but meanwhile don't forget to look at ALL our photos (well all of the ones I haven't deleted!)
